With the endorsement of HKU-LKS Faculty of Medicine and the Advisory Council on AIDS of Hong Kong Government, AIDS Institute successfully hosted the Hong Kong Symposium on HIV/AIDS 2012 in collaboration with Hong Kong AIDS Foundation. Professor SP Lee, Dr. CH Leong and Dr. Susan Fan made opening remarks. Over 200 participants attended the symposium including scientists, physicians, nurses, students, government officers and AIDS activists of various non-government organizations of Hong Kong and mainland China. The honorary director of AIDS Institute, Dr. David Ho gave the keynote speech entitled “Passive Immunization for HIV Prevention”.  Other guest speakers including Drs. Robert Schooley, George Shaw, Linqi Zhang, KH Wong, Patrick Li, Xiaoping Chen, shared their latest discoveries on HIV prevention and treatment. This symposium is an in time response to the latest record high of HIV infections in Hong Kong

Inauguration ceremony The Institute's inauguration just before the World AIDS Day on December 1, 2007, marked the University's strategic direction in the fight against the global AIDS epidemic. Officiating the ceremony were: Dr Victor Fung Kwok-King, HKU Council Chairman; Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, HKU Vice-Chancellor and President; Dr Hao Yang, Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health, the People's Republic of China; Dr Thomas Tsang Ho-Fai, Controller of the Centre for Health Protection, Department of Health, HKSAR Government; Dr David D Ho, Scientific Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, The Rockefeller University; Dr Leong Che-Hung, Chairman of Hong Kong AIDS Foundation; Professor Raymond Liang Hin-Suen, Acting Dean of HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine; Professor Yuen Kwok-Yung, Chair Professor and Head of HKU Department of Microbiology; and Dr Zhiwei Chen, Director of the AIDS Institute.
